Up-down Adaptive Method

The up-down adaptive method is a psychophysical procedure that estimates a participant’s sensory or behavioral threshold efficiently by adjusting stimulus intensity according to responses. After a correct response, the method typically decreases stimulus intensity, whereas an incorrect response increases it, causing successive trials to converge around a performance level or threshold of interest. This response-contingent staircase procedure reduces the number of trials needed compared with testing fixed stimulus levels and can help measure detection, discrimination, pain sensitivity, or other behavioral limits. Researchers use the resulting reversal points and threshold estimates to characterize individual performance and compare perceptual or behavioral conditions.

The Cold Plantar Assay (CPA) measures cold responsiveness between 30 °C and 5 °C, and can also measure cold adaptation. This protocol describes how to use the CPA to measure cold hypersensitivity, analgesia, and adaptation in mice.

A Method to Study Adaptation to Left-Right Reversed Audition

2018

The present study proposes a protocol to investigate the adaptation to left-right reversed audition achieved only by wearable devices, using neuroimaging, which can be an effective tool for uncovering the adaptability of humans to a novel environment in the auditory domain.

An In Vitro Method to Identify Innate and Adaptive Immune Cells Residing in Murine Lungs

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro technique to identify immune cells residing in murine lungs. After isolating target immune cells from murine lung tissue, they are surface-labeled using a cocktail of fluorophore-tagged antibodies against specific markers on innate and adaptive immune cells. Additionally, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells are labeled using an intracellular marker. The various immune cell types are then identified using flow cytometry.
