Pre-treatment Assessment

Pre-treatment assessment is the systematic evaluation of a person’s behavior, environment, and relevant history before an intervention begins, providing a baseline for clinical decision-making. In behavioral research and practice, it may combine interviews, direct observation, measurement of target behaviors, and analysis of antecedents and consequences to identify patterns and possible behavioral functions. Findings help practitioners define measurable goals, select appropriate intervention strategies, and tailor treatment to the individual and setting. Repeated assessment also supports comparison with baseline data, allowing researchers and clinicians to evaluate treatment response, refine procedures, and improve the scientific understanding of behavior change.

Pre-Procedural Guidelines for Assessing Blood Pressure

2024

Accurate blood pressure assessment is crucial for diagnosing and managing various health conditions. To ensure the reliability of these measurements, healthcare professionals must adhere to standardized pre-procedural guidelines. These guidelines enhance patient safety and improve the overall quality of healthcare. The following steps are essential for obtaining accurate and consistent blood pressure readings, from using the appropriate tools to ensuring effective communication with the patient.

Assessing Muscle Contraction with Neuromuscular Blocker Treatment

This video demonstrates assessing the muscle using cultured motor neurons, Schwann cells, and myotubes, followed by treatment with a neuromuscular blocker to inhibit contraction. Color-coded time-motion graphics show a color-coded time-motion graphic. Red indicates the fastest movement, and blue indicates the slowest.

pre-mRNA Processing

2019

In eukaryotic cells, transcripts made by RNA polymerase are modified and processed before exiting the nucleus. Unprocessed RNA is called precursor mRNA or pre-mRNA to distinguish it from mature mRNA. Once about 20-40 ribonucleotides have been joined together by RNA polymerase, a group of enzymes adds a “cap” to the 5’ end of the growing transcript. In this process, a 5’ phosphate is replaced by modified guanosine that has a methyl group attached to it (7-Methyl guanosine). This 5’ cap helps the...
