2-nbdg Uptake

2-NBDG uptake is a fluorescence-based method for measuring glucose transport into living cells, providing a rapid indicator of cellular glucose utilization. The glucose analog 2-NBDG enters cells primarily through glucose transporters, and its fluorescent nitrobenzoxadiazole group enables detection without requiring additional labeling. Researchers quantify intracellular fluorescence using fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, or plate readers to compare glucose uptake among cell types or experimental conditions. In biology, this assay supports studies of metabolism, insulin or transporter signaling, cancer cell energetics, neuronal function, and immune-cell activation, while results should be interpreted as transport-related fluorescence rather than a complete measure of glucose metabolism.
