Anal Sphincter

The anal sphincter is a ring of muscles that regulates the passage of fecal material through the anus and helps maintain bowel continence. It consists primarily of the involuntary internal anal sphincter, formed from smooth muscle, and the voluntary external anal sphincter, composed of skeletal muscle; coordinated contraction and relaxation respond to rectal filling, sensory signals, and neural control. During defecation, the rectum contracts while the sphincters relax, allowing stool to pass. Studying this muscular system helps explain gastrointestinal physiology and conditions such as fecal incontinence, constipation, and disorders affecting pelvic-floor function.

This stage marks a critical point where children begin to develop a sense of control and mastery over their bodily functions, as well as their broader...

2023

The high incidence of pain after anal surgery is due to the physiological structure and pathological status of the anus. At present, the use of painkillers cannot provide satisfactory pain relief, which makes complementary therapy important. This paper proposes acupoint needle-embedding combined with ironing therapy to relieve postoperative pain.
