Ants Tl+ Quencher

The ANTS Tl+ quencher system is a fluorescence-based method for monitoring membrane permeability and ion movement in biological samples. ANTS, a water-soluble fluorescent dye, emits light until Tl+ ions interact with and quench its fluorescence; when membrane channels or disruptions allow Tl+ to enter an ANTS-containing compartment, the resulting decrease in signal reports ion access. Researchers use this principle in vesicles, cells, and membrane preparations to study channel activity, transport processes, membrane integrity, and permeabilization. Because fluorescence changes can be measured rapidly and quantitatively, the assay supports investigations of ion flux and membrane function in biology.
