Body Angle Analysis

Body Angle Analysis is a quantitative method for measuring the angles formed by body segments or joints, helping researchers describe posture, alignment, and movement in biological systems. It typically uses anatomical landmarks, reference axes, photographs, video recordings, or motion-capture data to calculate joint or segment angles and track how they change over time. In biology, this approach supports the study of locomotion, animal behavior, biomechanics, and functional anatomy. Comparing body angles across individuals, conditions, or movement phases can reveal patterns in coordination, adaptation, and mechanical performance, providing measurable evidence for research in ecology, physiology, rehabilitation, and evolutionary biology.

Contact Angle

When a solid is dipped inside a liquid, the liquid surface becomes curved near the contact. For some solid–liquid interfaces, the liquid is pulled up along the solid, while for others, the liquid surface is convex or depressed near the solid surface. This phenomenon can be explained using the concept of cohesive and adhesive forces. The adhesive force is the molecular force between molecules of different materials, that is, between the molecules of the solid and the liquid. The cohesive force...

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez, Hussam Hikmat Jabbar and Mahmoud N. Abdullatif, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Owing to the non-linear nature of its governing laws, fluid motion induces complicated flow patterns. Understanding the nature of these patterns has been the subject of intense scrutiny for centuries. Although personal computers and supercomputers are extensively used to deduce fluid flow patterns, their capabilities are still...

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Equilibrium is a special case in mechanics that is very important in everyday life. It occurs when the net force and the net torque on an object or system are both zero. This means that both the linear and angular accelerations are zero. Thus, the object is at rest, or its center of mass is moving at a constant velocity. However, this...
