Camp Activation

cAMP activation is a cellular signaling process in which cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) acts as a second messenger to transmit signals from cell-surface receptors to intracellular targets. When an activated G protein stimulates adenylyl cyclase, the enzyme converts ATP into cAMP, which can activate protein kinase A, exchange proteins directly activated by cAMP (EPAC), and other effectors. These pathways regulate gene expression, metabolism, secretion, contraction, and cell growth. Studying cAMP activation helps researchers understand hormone and neurotransmitter signaling, characterize disease mechanisms, and evaluate drugs that alter receptor, adenylyl cyclase, phosphodiesterase, or downstream kinase activity.

Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (cAMP) is an essential second messenger that activates protein kinase A (PKA) and regulates various biological processes. A single epinephrine molecule binds to GPCR and activates several heterotrimeric G proteins, each stimulating multiple adenylyl cyclase, amplifying the signal, and synthesizing large numbers of cAMP molecules. Small changes in cAMP concentration affect PKA activity. The binding of four cAMP molecules induces a conformational change in PKA,...
