Cancer Biology Education

Cancer Biology Education is the study and teaching of how cancer develops, progresses, and responds to intervention, connecting fundamental biology with disease research and clinical investigation. It examines mechanisms such as genetic mutations, dysregulated cell signaling, uncontrolled proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and interactions between tumors and their microenvironment. By integrating molecular, cellular, and physiological perspectives, cancer biology education helps learners interpret experimental evidence, evaluate therapeutic strategies, and understand how discoveries translate into diagnosis and treatment. It supports training in areas including oncology, biomedical research, drug development, precision medicine, and public health, while strengthening the scientific literacy needed to address cancer’s biological complexity.

Methods allowing the characterization and isolation of stem cell populations from biological samples are critical for the advance of stem cell-targeted treatments in cancer and beyond. Here, we provide a detailed protocol for cancer stem cell isolation using the dye-triggered side population phenotype.

Synthetic Biology

This video presents synthetic biology and its role in bioengineering. Synthetic biology refers to the methods used to genetically modify organisms in order to make them capable of producing large quantities of a product. This product could be a protein that the cell already makes or a new protein that has been encoded in a newly-inserted DNA sequence. Here, we discuss how an organism's genetic material is modified using transformation or transfection. Then, the process is shown in the...
