Cell Rubbing

Cell rubbing is a simple sampling technique that mechanically transfers cells from a tissue or surface onto a microscope slide for examination. Controlled friction loosens surface cells, which are spread across the slide and may be stained to improve visibility of cellular structures. In biology education, the method provides an accessible way to study cell morphology and tissue organization, while research applications can include rapid cytological assessment and comparisons between tissue surfaces. The quality of observations depends on sampling pressure, the area examined, slide preparation, and staining conditions.
