Co-expression Analysis

Co-expression analysis is a computational method for identifying genes whose expression levels vary together across biological samples, helping researchers infer coordinated regulation and functional relationships. It typically quantifies similarity between expression profiles using correlation or related measures, then groups highly co-expressed genes into networks or modules that can be linked to pathways, cell types, or phenotypes. In biology, this approach supports gene-function prediction, biomarker discovery, disease-mechanism studies, and analysis of developmental or environmental responses. Although co-expression reveals associations rather than direct causation, it provides a valuable framework for generating hypotheses and prioritizing targets for experimental validation.

This article outlines the protocol for quantifying the percentage of Tissue Factor (TF)-positive platelets using whole blood flow cytometry, assessing the protein: (1) intracellularly in resting conditions, and (2) on the cell surface, in both resting and activated conditions. Guidance is also provided for evaluating TF-positive platelets in platelet-rich plasma.
