Convulsion Phenotype

Convulsion phenotype refers to the observable seizure-related traits of an organism, including the presence, frequency, severity, and behavioral features of convulsive episodes. It arises when neuronal networks undergo excessive, synchronized electrical activity, often producing abnormal motor patterns such as rhythmic jerking, stiffening, loss of posture, or impaired responsiveness. In biology, researchers characterize convulsion phenotypes in genetic, pharmacological, and disease models to identify factors that influence network excitability and seizure susceptibility. Standardized measurements of onset, duration, progression, and recovery help evaluate candidate mechanisms, compare experimental conditions, and assess potential anticonvulsant interventions.

The exposed normal ocular surface consists of cornea and conjunctiva. Epithelial cells, goblet cells and immune cells are present in the conjunctiva. Here, a non-invasive, technique of impression cytology is described using an impression cytology device and flow cytometry to analyze immune cells in the conjunctiva.
