Dendrite Function

Dendrite function refers to the role of neuronal dendrites in receiving, processing, and transmitting information toward the cell body, making them central to communication within nervous systems. Their branched membranes collect signals from other neurons and sensory cells, while ligand-gated ion channels convert neurotransmitter binding into graded electrical changes that are integrated across space and time at the soma and axon initial segment. Dendritic structure and synaptic plasticity influence how neural circuits compute information, adapt during learning, and respond to injury or disease, making dendrites important subjects in cellular neuroscience and neurobiology.

Analyzing Dendritic Morphology in Columns and Layers

2017

Here, we show how to analyze dendritic routing of Drosophila medulla neurons in columns and layers. The workflow includes a dual-view imaging technique to improve the image quality and computational tools for tracing, registering dendritic arbors to the reference column array and for analyzing the dendritic structures in 3D space.

Here a protocol is presented to measure bacterial capture by CD4+ T cells which occurs during antigen presentation via transinfection from pre-infected dendritic cells (DC). We show how to perform the necessary steps: isolation of primary cells, infection of DC, DC/T cell conjugate formation, and measurement of bacterial T cell transfection.
