Disposable Tips

Disposable tips are single-use laboratory consumables designed to transfer liquids with pipettes while reducing contamination and sample carryover. A tip forms a temporary liquid-contact interface with the pipette, and pressing and releasing the plunger creates air displacement that aspirates and dispenses a measured volume. In biology, researchers use disposable tips for preparing reagents, handling cultures, performing serial dilutions, and loading samples for molecular assays such as PCR. Using a fresh tip between samples supports sterile technique, protects pipettes from liquid exposure, and improves the reliability and reproducibility of quantitative experiments.

Robert M. Rioux and Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania, PA Users are responsible for the proper disposal of the waste generated during their work. Improper waste disposal may severely endanger public health and/or the environment. The handling of hazardous waste must be regulated from the moment of generation until its disposal at its offsite final destination facility. A waste management system must be devised before work begins on any laboratory activity. Users...
