Ev Characterization

Extracellular vesicle (EV) characterization is the systematic analysis of cell-derived, lipid-bilayer particles to establish their size, morphology, molecular composition, and biological identity. Because no single measurement fully defines an EV preparation, researchers combine complementary methods such as nanoparticle tracking analysis for size and concentration, electron microscopy for structure, and immunoblotting or immunoassays for characteristic proteins. This approach helps distinguish EVs from contaminants and supports the study of intercellular communication, disease-associated biomarkers, and therapeutic delivery systems. Reliable characterization is therefore essential for comparing experiments, interpreting EV function, and advancing applications in biology and medicine.
