Extended Depth Software

Extended Depth Software is an image-processing tool that produces a single focused image from samples whose structures extend beyond the microscope’s depth of field. It works by combining images captured at different focal planes, identifying the sharpest regions in each, and merging them into an extended-depth composite. In biology, this approach helps researchers visualize thick or uneven specimens, including organisms, tissues, and microscopic structures, without restricting the image to one focal level. The resulting composites can improve documentation, morphological analysis, and communication of spatial features, supporting microscopy workflows in teaching, research, and biological imaging.

Uniform Depth Channel Flow

2025

Uniform depth channel flow keeps fluid depth consistent along channels such as irrigation canals. In natural channels, such as rivers, approximate uniform flow is often assumed. This condition occurs when the channel’s bottom slope matches the energy slope, balancing potential energy lost from gravity with head loss due to shear stress. This balance prevents depth changes along the channel length, resulting in a steady, uniform flow.Uniform flow in open channels with a constant cross-section...

Depth Perception and Spatial Vision

Depth perception is the ability to perceive objects three-dimensionally. It relies on two types of cues: binocular and monocular. Binocular cues depend on the combination of images from both eyes and how the eyes work together. Since the eyes are in slightly different positions, each eye captures a slightly different image. This disparity between images, known as binocular disparity, helps the brain interpret depth. When the brain compares these images, it determines the distance to an object.

Extended Versions of Green’s Theorem

Green’s Theorem connects the circulation of a vector field around a closed curve with the behavior of the field across the region enclosed by that curve. It provides a way to replace a line integral around a boundary with a double integral over the interior region, making it especially useful in plane geometry, fluid flow, and vector calculus.Although Green’s Theorem is often introduced using simple regions without gaps, it can also be applied to regions made from several simple parts. This...

2016

The optical, electrical, and structural properties of dislocations and of grain boundaries in semiconductor materials can be determined by experiments performed in a scanning electron microscope. Electron microscopy has been used to investigate cathodoluminescence, electron beam induced current, and diffraction of backscattered electrons.

VisualEyes: A Modular Software System for Oculomotor Experimentation

Neural control and cognitive processes can be studied through eye movements. The VisualEyes software allows an operator to program stimuli on two computer screens independently using a simple, custom scripting language. The system can stimulate tandem eye movements (saccades and smooth pursuit) or opposing eye movements (vergence) or any combination.
