Femoral Nerve

The femoral nerve is a major peripheral nerve of the lower limb and the largest branch of the lumbar plexus, carrying motor and sensory information between the spinal cord and the thigh and leg. Formed mainly by ventral rami of spinal nerves L2–L4, it passes beneath the inguinal ligament and divides into branches that activate the iliacus, sartorius, and quadriceps muscles while conveying sensation from the anterior thigh and medial leg. Its anatomy supports analysis of walking, knee extension, reflexes, and lower-limb neurological deficits, and guides femoral nerve blocks used for regional anesthesia and pain control.

Central Venous Catheter Insertion: Femoral Vein

2023

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Central venous access is necessary in a multitude of clinical situations, including vascular access, vasopressor and caustic medication delivery, central venous pressure monitoring, volume resuscitation, total parental nutrition, hemodialysis, and frequent phlebotomy. There are three veins in the body that are accessed for central venous cannulation: the internal jugular, the subclavian, and the...

This protocol describes a procedure for serial sampling of femoral bone marrow (BM) without requiring the sacrifice of mice. This procedure facilitates longitudinal studies of the BM composition of mice over time and provides serial access to cells within the BM for ex vivo and transplantation studies.

An Experimental Model of Peripheral Ischemia: A Procedure to Generate Peripheral Ischemia via Femoral Artery Ligation in a Rabbit

We demonstrate a protocol for axoplasm isolation from adult rat sciatic nerve based on dissection of nerve fascicles and incubation in hypotonic medium to release myelin and lyse non-axonal structures, followed by extraction of the remaining axon-enriched material.
