Fidelity Enhancement

Fidelity enhancement in biology refers to strategies that increase the accuracy of copying, reading, or transmitting genetic information, helping limit unwanted errors in experimental and cellular processes. In nucleic acid amplification, this improvement can arise from polymerases with precise nucleotide selection and proofreading exonuclease activity, together with optimized reaction conditions that reduce misincorporation. High-fidelity amplification supports accurate cloning, sequencing, variant detection, and molecular diagnostics, while related principles of error control also inform studies of DNA replication and gene expression. By reducing artifacts and preserving sequence integrity, fidelity enhancement strengthens the reliability and interpretability of biological research.

The recent development of neuroscience tools that combine genetics and optics, termed "optogenetics", enables control over neural circuit activity with an unprecedented level of spatial and temporal resolution. Here we provide a protocol for integrating in vivo recording with optogenetic manipulation of genetically-defined subsets of prefrontal cortical and subicular pyramidal neurons.

Self-Evaluation: Self-Enhancement and Self-Verification

2020

Social psychologists have documented that feeling good about ourselves and maintaining positive self-esteem is a powerful motivator of human behavior (Tavris & Aronson, 2008). In the United States, members of the predominant culture typically think very highly of themselves and view themselves as good people who are above average on many desirable traits (Ehrlinger, Gilovich, & Ross, 2005). Often, our behavior, attitudes, and beliefs are affected when we experience a threat to our...

Bioavailability Enhancement: Drug Permeability Enhancement

2026

After oral administration, poor permeability often limits the rate at which drugs are absorbed through the intestinal epithelium. Enhancing drug permeability is crucial for effective therapy, and several strategies have been developed to overcome this challenge. One effective strategy involves the use of lipid-based formulations. These formulations enhance dissolution and solubility, targeting physiological mechanisms to increase drug absorption. This includes stimulating bile salt secretion,...
