Heart Recovery Method

The heart recovery method refers to approaches used to restore cardiac function after injury, reduced blood flow, or experimental intervention, making it important for studying repair and preserving heart performance. Recovery typically depends on reestablishing adequate oxygen and nutrient delivery, limiting additional cellular stress, and supporting the coordinated contraction of cardiac muscle as damaged tissue regains function. In biology research, these methods help evaluate myocardial injury, tissue repair, drug responses, and regenerative therapies. Careful measurement of contraction, electrical activity, and tissue viability can reveal whether a treatment improves functional recovery and clarify mechanisms that may support future cardiovascular therapies.

2014

Use of zebrafish for cardiovascular research is expanding towards research on adult hearts. For these applications, quick and simple isolation of cardiac tissues is key to avoid post-mortem changes and to obtain an adequate number of samples. Here, we describe a fast and reproducible method for dissecting adult zebrafish hearts.

A Novel Ex vivo Culture Method for the Embryonic Mouse Heart

Developmental studies in the mouse are hampered by the inaccessibility of the embryo during gestation. To promote the long-term culture of the embryonic heart at late stages of gestation, we developed a protocol in which the excised heart is cultured in a semi-solid, dilute Matrigel.

This video describes a protocol to obtain brain slices using an N-Methyl-D-glucamine (NMDG)-based protective recovery method. A dissected brain is incubated in an aCSF with NMDG and HEPES to minimize neuronal cell death and damage during the sectioning. The section is allowed to recover in the aCSF to restore the cellular...

Assessment of Cardiac Function and Myocardial Morphology Using Small Animal Look-locker Inversion Recovery (SALLI) MRI in Rats

Contrast enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging allows comprehensive in vivo assessment of the heart in small animal models of cardiovascular disease. Here we detail the procedures to perform CMR imaging, reconstruction and analysis using Small Animal Lock-Locker Inversion Recovery (SALLI) in rats.
