Magnetic Cell Sorting

Magnetic cell sorting is a separation technique that isolates specific cell populations from a mixed sample using magnetic particles, enabling researchers to obtain enriched or depleted cells for biological analysis. In a typical process, antibodies or other affinity molecules attached to magnetic beads bind target markers on cell surfaces, and a magnetic field retains labeled cells while unlabeled cells are washed through. The separated populations can support studies of immune-cell function, stem cells, cancer biology, and cell signaling. Because the method is relatively rapid and scalable, it is widely used for cell enrichment before culture, molecular assays, flow cytometry, or downstream experiments.
