Multichannel Pipetting

Multichannel pipetting is a laboratory technique that uses a pipette with multiple aligned channels to transfer liquid into or from several vessels simultaneously, improving efficiency and consistency in biological experiments. Each channel aspirates and dispenses a controlled volume through coordinated piston movement, while the fixed spacing of the tips matches wells in standard microplates. Researchers use multichannel pipettes for reagent addition, serial dilutions, sample preparation, and assay setup, particularly when processing many samples or replicates. By reducing repetitive handling and well-to-well variation, the technique supports higher-throughput workflows in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemical testing, and other applications that depend on accurate liquid handling.

Many microfluidic devices have been developed for use in the study of electrotaxis. Yet, none of these chips allows the efficient study of the simultaneous chemical and electric-field (EF) effects on cells. We developed a polymethylmethacrylate-based device that offers better-controlled coexisting EF and chemical stimulation for use in electrotaxis research.
