Purified Recombinant Proteins

Purified recombinant proteins are laboratory-produced proteins made by introducing a gene into a host organism or cell and isolating the resulting protein in a defined form. Their production typically involves recombinant DNA cloning, expression in systems such as bacteria or cultured cells, and purification through methods that separate the target protein from host-cell components while preserving its structure and activity. In biology, these proteins support enzyme assays, antibody production, structural studies, diagnostics, and investigations of protein function. Consistent purity and concentration also make them valuable for testing molecular interactions, developing therapeutics, and standardizing experimental results.

Following antigen exposure, subpopulations of activated B cells undergo a process known as class switch recombination (CSR) to produce antibody isotypes with distinct effector functions. The protocol outlined in this report explains how CSR can be induced and analyzed in vitro for the purposes of studying B cell function.
