Snp Analysis

Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis is the study of single-base variations in DNA that differ among individuals or populations, providing a way to measure genetic diversity and variation. It works by identifying nucleotide substitutions through PCR-based genotyping, DNA hybridization, or sequencing, then comparing alleles at defined genomic positions across samples. In biology, SNP analysis helps trace inheritance, map genetic loci, characterize populations, and investigate associations between genetic variants and traits or disease susceptibility. Because SNPs are abundant and relatively stable, they support large-scale genetic studies and improve understanding of genome organization and biological variation.

SNP Genotyping

2023

Single nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPs, are the most common form of genetic variation in humans. These differences at individual bases in the DNA often do not directly affect gene expression, but in many cases can still be useful for locating disease-associated genes or for diagnosing patients. Numerous methodologies have been established to identify, or “genotype”, SNPs.JoVE’s introduction to SNP Genotyping begins by discussing what SNPs are and how they can be used to identify...

2013

A protocol is described that uses Illumina's Infinium assays to perform large-scale genotyping. These assays can reliably genotype millions of SNPs across hundreds of individual DNA samples in three days. Once generated, these genotypes can be used to check for associations with a variety of different diseases or phenotypes.

Frequency and Distribution of Crossovers in Caenorhabditis elegans Meiosis by SNP Genotyping using Real-time PCR

2025

This protocol provides a method for measuring crossover frequencies and distribution during meiosis in Caenorhabditis elegans. Single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping with real-time PCR was used to determine the origin of the chromosomes. The 4-point mapping allowed to determine the crossover distributions of the left-arm, center, and right-arm regions of each chromosome. ...

Visual analytics (VA) is a new approach of analyzing data interactively. In this video, we discuss the data overload problem brought on by high-throughput biological experiments, and propose VA as a solution to such problem. The video demonstrates analysis within and between immunological datasets using a VA tool called Tableau.
