Surgical Technique

Surgical technique is the organized set of methods used to access, manipulate, repair, or remove tissues during an operation, with precision and control supporting safe biological intervention. It works by combining anatomical planning with aseptic preparation, controlled tissue dissection, hemostasis, retraction, and wound closure while limiting trauma to surrounding structures. In biology, surgical techniques enable researchers and clinicians to investigate organ function, create experimental models, collect tissue samples, and treat disease. Standardized procedures improve reproducibility and outcomes, while minimally invasive instruments and image guidance continue to refine how biological systems are studied and managed.

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

A Standardized Surgical Technique for Tessier Medial Transnasal Canthopexy

2026

Medial canthopexy allows correction of the position and fixation of the medial canthal tendon. Due to the technical difficulties of this procedure, there is a need for a detailed protocol for educational purposes. Here, we describe a standardized reproducible technique for bilateral medial transnasal canthopexy by an orbitonasal approach.

A Modified Surgical Technique for Kidney Transplantation in Mice

2022

This protocol presents a new surgical technique of mouse kidney transplantation focusing on a modified arterial anastomosis strategy. A vascular suture technique including a simple and safer ureter-bladder anastomosis method is also presented. These modifications shorten the operation time and improve the success rate of the mouse kidney transplantation procedure.
