Tube Strip Assay

A tube strip assay is a diagnostic laboratory method that uses a reagent-coated strip placed in a tube to detect or estimate a specific biological target. During the assay, a sample contacts capture or indicator reagents immobilized on the strip, producing a visible signal, often through color development, when the target or its activity is present. This format supports rapid, low-volume screening of microorganisms, biomolecules, enzymes, or other biological components and can simplify qualitative comparisons across samples. In biology, tube strip assays are useful for teaching fundamental assay design, preliminary identification, and field or resource-limited testing before more quantitative methods are applied.

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...

Voltammetry: Stripping Methods

2024

Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV), Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry (CSV), and Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry (AdSV) are electrochemical techniques used to determine trace amounts of analytes in solution. These methods involve applying a potential to an electrode and measuring the resulting current. Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (ASV) ASV is used to determine metals and metalloids at trace levels. It involves two steps: deposition and stripping. First, a negative potential is applied to the...

Development of a Colloidal Gold-based Immunochromatographic Test Strip for Detection of Cetacean Myoglobin

This protocol describes the development of two IgG class monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) strongly reactive to myoglobin of cetaceans. These mAbs are applied on a colloidal gold immunochromatographic test strip based on the sandwich format to differentiate the Mb of cetaceans from seal and other animals.
