Zebrafish Embryo Imaging

Zebrafish embryo imaging is the visualization of developing zebrafish embryos to examine cellular behavior, tissue formation, and organ development in a living vertebrate model. Because embryos are small and optically accessible, researchers can mount them in aqueous media, use transmitted light or fluorescent labels, and capture development with time-lapse microscopy; confocal and light-sheet methods can provide optical sections while limiting out-of-focus signal. These approaches reveal dynamic processes such as cell migration, morphogenesis, and gene expression, supporting studies of embryology, genetics, disease mechanisms, and drug effects. Imaging-based measurements also enable quantitative comparisons across developmental stages and experimental conditions.

Optically transparent zebrafish embryos are widely used to study and visualize in real time the interactions between pathogenic microorganisms and the innate immune cells. Micro-injection of Mycobacterium abscessus, combined with fluorescence imaging, is used to scrutinize essential pathogenic features such as cord formation in zebrafish embryos.
