Cam Vasculature Visualization

Cam Vasculature Visualization is a technique for imaging the blood vessel network of the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM), an accessible model for studying vascular development and tumor angiogenesis. Researchers visualize vessel branching, density, and remodeling by observing the CAM with microscopy, often before and after applying tumor cells, tissue samples, or candidate treatments. In cancer research, this approach reveals how tumors recruit and reorganize host blood vessels to support growth. Quantifying vascular changes can help evaluate angiogenic activity, compare tumor behavior, and assess anti-angiogenic therapies, providing a relatively rapid in vivo model that complements cell culture and mammalian studies.

C4 Pathway and CAM

2019

Most plants use the C3 pathway for carbon fixation. However, some plants, such as sugar cane, corn, and cacti that grow in hot conditions, use alternative pathways to fix carbon and conserve energy loss due to photorespiration. Photorespiration is the process that occurs when the oxygen concentration is high. Under such conditions, the rubisco enzyme in the Calvin cycle binds O2 instead of CO2, which halts photosynthesis and consumes energy. C4 Pathway The C4 pathway is used by plants such as...

In this video, we describe a technique to open the eggshell of a fertilized chicken egg to expose its chorioallantoic membrane or CAM carrying a network of branching blood vessels. The exposed CAM can be used for in ovo tumor modeling.

The chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) is immunodeficient and highly vascularized, making it a natural in vivo model of tumor growth and angiogenesis. In this protocol, we describe a reliable method of growing three-dimensional, vascularized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumors using the CAM assay.

The in ovo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) is grafted with fresh sarcoma-derived tumor tissues, their single cell suspensions, and permanent and transient fluorescently labeled established sarcoma cell lines. The model is used to study graft- (viability, Ki67 proliferation index, necrosis, infiltration) and host (fibroblast infiltration, vascular ingrowth) behavior.

This video presentation shows a method of harvesting the two most important highly vascular structures that support forebrain function. They are the cerebral surface (superficial) vasculature along with associated meninges (MAV) and the choroid plexus which are necessary for cerebral blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) homeostasis.
