Kidney Cancer Model

A kidney cancer model is an experimental system that reproduces selected features of renal tumors, enabling researchers to study disease biology under controlled conditions. Models may use cultured cancer cells, three-dimensional organoids, patient-derived tissues, or animal systems to examine how tumor cells grow, communicate with their surroundings, invade tissue, and respond to treatment. In cancer research, these models help investigators investigate genetic changes, tumor microenvironments, metastasis, and therapeutic resistance. Comparing findings across model types can clarify which mechanisms reflect human disease and support the development and preclinical evaluation of targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and personalized treatment strategies.

Renal injuries incurred from nephrotoxins, which include drugs ranging from antibiotics to chemotherapeutics, can result in complex disorders whose pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. This protocol demonstrates how zebrafish can be used for disease modeling of these conditions, which can be applied to the identification of renoprotective measures.
