Dual-inlet System

A dual-inlet system is an analytical interface that introduces two gases into an instrument through separate, independently controlled inlet paths, enabling precise comparison of sample and reference materials. Valves alternate the gas streams or admit them sequentially under controlled pressure, allowing the detector to measure differences in composition while minimizing changes in instrument conditions. In chemistry, dual-inlet systems are especially important for isotope-ratio mass spectrometry, where repeated switching between a sample gas and an isotopically characterized reference improves measurement precision and stability. This approach supports investigations of reaction pathways, material sources, environmental processes, and subtle isotopic variations.

Many microfluidic devices have been developed for use in the study of electrotaxis. Yet, none of these chips allows the efficient study of the simultaneous chemical and electric-field (EF) effects on cells. We developed a polymethylmethacrylate-based device that offers better-controlled coexisting EF and chemical stimulation for use in electrotaxis research.

This video presents a protocol for the mass spectrometrical analysis of volatile and oxidation sensitive compounds using electron impact ionization. The presented technique is especially of interest for inorganic chemists, working with metal organyls, silanes, or phosphanes which have to be handled using inert conditions, such as the Schlenk technique.

Simultaneously Capturing Real-time Images in Two Emission Channels Using a Dual Camera Emission Splitting System: Applications to Cell Adhesion

Dual camera emission splitting systems for two-color fluorescence microscopy generate real-time image sequences with exceptional optical and temporal resolution, a requirement of certain live cell assays including parallel plate flow chamber adhesion assays. When software is employed to merge images from simultaneously acquired emission channels, pseudocolored image sequences are produced.

This video demonstrates the use of dual fluorescence imaging to evaluate the differentiation of oligodendrocytes from precursor cells (OPCs) isolated from a rat pup brain. The process includes fixing the cells, labeling specific markers with primary and fluorophore-conjugated secondary antibodies, and...
