F-test

The F-test is a statistical method used to compare variances or evaluate whether differences among model estimates are significant, making it useful for judging experimental precision. It calculates an F statistic as a ratio of variance estimates and compares that value with an F distribution determined by the relevant degrees of freedom; a small p-value provides evidence against the null hypothesis of equal variances or equivalent model performance. In chemistry, F-tests can compare the precision of analytical methods, assess calibration or regression models, and support analysis of variance when determining whether experimental factors produce meaningful changes in measured results.

2017

Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are considered a powerful tool for drug and chemical screening and for the development of new in vitro models for toxicity testing, including neurotoxicity. Here, a detailed protocol for the differentiation of hiPSCs into neurons and glia is described.

Using a Cyclic Ion Mobility Spectrometer for Tandem Ion Mobility Experiments

Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) is an interesting complement to mass spectrometry for the characterization of biomolecules, notably because it is sensitive to isomerism. This protocol describes a tandem IMS (IMS/IMS) experiment, which allows the isolation of a molecule and the generation of the mobility profiles of its fragments.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.
