Non Superposable

Non-superposable describes two objects or molecular structures that cannot be aligned so every corresponding part occupies the same position, even after rotation or translation. In chemistry, this relationship commonly arises between mirror-image molecules containing a tetrahedral atom bonded to four different substituents; no spatial reorientation makes their three-dimensional arrangements coincide, producing enantiomers. Non-superposability is a central concept in stereochemistry because enantiomers can interact differently with other chiral molecules, including biological receptors and enzymes. Recognizing this property supports the analysis of molecular structure, optical activity, reaction outcomes, and the design of pharmaceuticals with desired biological effects.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.

Stereoisomerism

Isomerism in Complexes Isomers are different chemical species that have the same chemical formula. Transition metal complexes often exist as geometric isomers, in which the same atoms are connected through the same types of bonds but with differences in their orientation in space. Coordination complexes with two different ligands in the cis and trans positions from a ligand of interest form isomers. For example, the octahedral [Co(NH3)4Cl2]+ ion has two isomers (Figure 1) In the cis...

Channels for the transportation of water molecules in enzymes influence active site solvation and catalysis. Herein we present a protocol for the engineering of these additional catalytic motifs based on in silico computer modeling and experiments. This will enhance our understanding of the influence of solvent dynamics on enzyme catalysis.

Glutamatergic synapses can switch from an active mode to a silent mode. We demonstrate that presynaptic activity status in dissociated culture of rodent neurons is visualized using a fixable form of the FM1-43 dye to visualize active synapses and immunostaining with vGluT-1 antibody to visualize all glutamate synapses.
