Electronic Mar

An Electronic MAR, or electronic medication administration record, is a digital system for documenting and coordinating medication use in clinical care. It connects a patient’s medication orders with scheduled administration details, allowing clinicians to record the drug, dose, route, time, and administration status at the point of care. By providing time-stamped records and surfacing discrepancies between orders and administration entries, an Electronic MAR supports medication verification, communication, and continuity across care teams. Its use can strengthen medication safety, streamline clinical workflows, support auditing and reconciliation, and provide structured data for quality improvement and healthcare research.

Electron Carriers

2019

Electron carriers can be thought of as electron shuttles. These compounds can easily accept electrons (i.e., be reduced) or lose them (i.e., be oxidized). They play an essential role in energy production because cellular respiration is contingent on the flow of electrons. Over the many stages of cellular respiration, glucose breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. Electron carriers pick up electrons lost by glucose in these reactions, temporarily storing and releasing them into the electron...

Electron Affinity

The electron affinity (EA) is the energy change for adding an electron to a gaseous atom to form an anion (negative ion). This process can be either endothermic or exothermic, depending on the element. Many of these elements have negative values of EA, which means that energy is released when the gaseous atom accepts an electron. However, for some elements, energy is required for the atom to become negatively charged, and the value of their EA is positive. Just as with ionization energy,...

By using an innovative ground-based analogue model, we are able to simulate a space mission including a trip to (0 g) and a stay on Mars (0.38 g) in rats. This model allows for a longitudinal assessment of the physiological changes occurring during the two hypo-gravitational stages of the mission.

Electron Transport Chains

2019

The final stage of cellular respiration is oxidative phosphorylation that consists of two steps: the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis. The electron transport chain is a set of proteins found in the inner mitochondrial membrane in eukaryotic cells. Its primary function is to establish a proton gradient that can be used during chemiosmosis to produce ATP and generate electron carriers, such as NAD+ and FAD, that are used in glycolysis and the citric acid cycle. The ETC is comprised of...
