Converging Nozzle

A converging nozzle is an engineered passage that narrows in the direction of fluid flow, converting pressure energy into increased velocity and directing the resulting jet. As the cross-sectional area decreases, the fluid accelerates and its static pressure falls; when the downstream-to-upstream pressure ratio is sufficiently low, the flow can become choked and reach Mach 1 at the narrowest exit. Converging nozzles are used in turbines, propulsion systems, spray devices, and flow-control equipment to regulate discharge and generate high-speed streams. Their geometry helps engineers predict mass flow, pressure losses, thrust, and operating limits in compressible-flow systems.

Nozzle Analysis: Variations in Mach Number and Pressure Along a Converging and a Converging-diverging Nozzle

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A nozzle is a device that is commonly used to accelerate or decelerate flow by virtue of its varying cross-section. Nozzles are widely used in aerospace propulsion systems. In rockets, propellant that is ejected from the chamber is accelerated through a nozzle to create a reaction force that propels the system. In jet engines, a nozzle is used to transform energy from a high-pressure...

We present protocols to be used in the measurement of spray droplet size from agricultural nozzles used in both aerial and ground based agrochemical applications. These methods presented were developed to provide consistent and repeatable droplet size data both inter- and intra-laboratory, when using laser diffraction systems.

Alginate Encapsulation of Pluripotent Stem Cells Using a Co-axial Nozzle

We established a method of encapsulating pluripotent stem cells (PS cells) into alginate hydrogel capsules using a co-axial nozzle. This prevents cells from aggregating excessively and limits the shear stress experienced by cells in suspension culture. The technique is applicable to the mass production of PS cells as well as research on stem cell niche.

Convergence of Sequences

A sequence is a function defined on the natural numbers that assigns a value to each index. It can be understood as an ordered list of terms generated one after another. In mathematical analysis, an important question is whether the terms of a sequence approach a single real number as the index becomes very large. When this happens, the sequence is said to converge, and the value approached is called the limit. From a graphical perspective, convergence means that the plotted terms approach a...

Interval and Radius of Convergence

A power series is a mathematical representation of a function as an infinite sum of terms involving powers of a variable. Such series converge only for specific input values, making it essential to determine the range over which the series produces valid results. This leads to the concepts of radius and interval of convergence, which define where the series behaves meaningfully. The radius of convergence describes the distance from the center within which the power series converges. For a...
