Flow System Analysis

Flow system analysis is the systematic study of how fluids move through pipes, channels, ducts, pumps, and other engineered networks, and why that behavior matters for design and operation. It applies conservation of mass, momentum, and energy to relate pressure, velocity, flow rate, fluid properties, elevation, and resistance under defined boundary conditions. Engineers use these relationships to predict pressure losses, identify bottlenecks, size equipment, and assess system efficiency and stability. The approach supports applications ranging from water distribution and chemical processing to ventilation, thermal systems, and aerospace engineering, helping researchers optimize performance, improve safety, and reduce energy consumption.

Many different methods exist for the measurement of extracellular vesicles (EVs) using flow cytometry (FCM). Several aspects should be considered when determining the most appropriate method to use. Two protocols for measuring EVs are presented, using either individual detection or a bead-based approach.

Free Cash Flow Analysis

2025

Free cash flow (FCF) is a critical indicator of a company’s financial flexibility and long-term viability. It represents the cash remaining after a firm covers its essential capital expenditures—funds used to maintain or expand physical assets like equipment, buildings, or technology.Calculating Free Cash FlowFree cash flow is calculated by taking the cash generated from operating activities and subtracting the company’s capital expenditures. This clearly measures how much cash remains after...

This article describes spectral cytometry, a new approach in flow cytometry that uses the shapes of emission spectra to distinguish fluorochromes. An algorithm replaces compensations and can treat auto-fluorescence as an independent parameter. This new approach allows for the proper analysis of cells isolated from solid organs.

To quantify microvascular flow from high speed capillary flow image sequences, we developed STAFF (Spatial Temporal Analysis of Fieldwise Flow) software. Across the full image field and over time, STAFF evaluates flow velocities and generates a sequence of color-coded spatial maps for visualization and tabular output for quantitative analyses.
