Foam Transport Analysis

Foam Transport Analysis is the study of how gas-liquid foams move, deform, and redistribute within engineered systems, where bubble structure strongly influences flow behavior and performance. It examines coupled gas and liquid transport through factors such as pressure gradients, capillary forces, bubble coalescence, and foam rheology, often using flow measurements or computational models to relate microstructure to macroscopic resistance. In engineering, this analysis supports the design and optimization of porous-media flows, filtration systems, heat and mass transfer equipment, and foam-based processing technologies. It helps predict pressure drop, mobility, stability, and transport efficiency under changing operating conditions.

This paper describes a protocol along with a comparative study of two microfluidic fabrication techniques, namely photolithography/wet-etching/thermal-bonding and Selective Laser-induced Etching (SLE), that are suitable for high-pressure conditions. These techniques constitute enabling platforms for direct observation of fluid flow in surrogate permeable media and fractured systems under reservoir conditions.

Here we describe how to build a robust spring-transport mechanism for a spinning rotor gauge. This device securely immobilizes the rotor and keeps it under vacuum during transportation. We also describe packaging that minimizes the risk of damage during transport. Tests show our design works for typical shocks during transport.
