Morphology Control Method

Morphology control is an engineering method for deliberately adjusting the size, shape, structure, and surface features of a material or fabricated component to achieve targeted performance. It works by regulating formation or processing conditions, such as reaction rates, temperature, composition, solvent environment, growth direction, or the use of templates and additives, which influence nucleation, growth, assembly, and deformation. Engineers apply morphology control to tailor surface area, porosity, strength, transport, optical behavior, catalytic activity, and biological interactions in materials and devices. The method supports the design of nanoparticles, coatings, membranes, composites, and other structures whose function depends strongly on geometry and microstructure.

GFP-fusion proteins are widely used to visualize organelles by confocal microscopy. However, screening for mutations that affect the morphology of organelles generally requires individual mutagenesis and is time consuming. Here, we demonstrate a method to simultaneously incorporate organelle-GFP markers in almost 5,000 non-essential genes in yeast.

Vasectomy is a surgical form of male sterilization that involves severing and sealing the vasa deferentia, preventing sperm from mixing with semen during ejaculation. Because a vasectomy does not impact the testes' ability to produce testosterone, hormone levels, libido, and sexual function generally remain unchanged. While vasectomy is highly effective in preventing pregnancy, with a success rate near 99.85%, rare cases of recanalization (spontaneous reconnection) can occur. Although vasectomy...

Bone Marrow Aspiration: A Method to Obtain Bone Marrow to Examine Cell Morphology

This video describes the technique of aspirating bone marrow from iliac spine and smear preparation for biopsy. In the example, we perform bone marrow aspiration from an acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient and examine the cells to check for measurable residual disease (MRD), an important prognostic biomarker.
