Mueller Matrix Analysis

Mueller Matrix Analysis is an optical measurement and modeling technique that characterizes how materials and components alter the polarization of light, making it valuable for engineering design and quality control. It represents a sample or system with a 4 × 4 Mueller matrix, which transforms an incident light beam’s Stokes vector into the measured output and can reveal changes in intensity, polarization, retardance, diattenuation, and depolarization. Engineers apply the method to evaluate optical coatings, sensors, imaging systems, and other polarization-sensitive devices. By separating these effects, Mueller matrix measurements support material characterization, system calibration, defect detection, and improved optical performance.
