Switching Angles

Switching angles are the programmed points within an electrical waveform at which semiconductor devices change state, shaping how a power converter delivers voltage and current. In inverter control, each angle determines when a switch turns on or off during a cycle; coordinating several angles creates stepped voltage waveforms and can regulate the fundamental component while reducing selected harmonics. Engineers use switching-angle control in variable-speed drives, grid-connected inverters, and other power-electronic systems to improve waveform quality, efficiency, and electromagnetic compatibility. Calculating suitable angles is therefore important for balancing output performance, switching losses, thermal demands, and compliance with power-quality requirements.

Switching of BJT

2024

Switching behavior in Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) is a fundamental aspect utilized in various electronic circuits, particularly for digital logic applications like switches and amplifiers. In a typical switching circuit, a BJT alternates between cut-off and saturation modes, corresponding to the "off" and "on" states, respectively, thus behaving like an ideal switch. Cut-off Mode ("Off" State): In this state, both the emitter-base and collector-base junctions are reverse-biased. The...

Contact Angle

When a solid is dipped inside a liquid, the liquid surface becomes curved near the contact. For some solid–liquid interfaces, the liquid is pulled up along the solid, while for others, the liquid surface is convex or depressed near the solid surface. This phenomenon can be explained using the concept of cohesive and adhesive forces. The adhesive force is the molecular force between molecules of different materials, that is, between the molecules of the solid and the liquid. The cohesive force...

Measuring the Switch Cost of Smartphone Use While Walking

2020

This study design measures the task-switching cost of using a smartphone while walking. Participants undergo two experimental conditions: a control condition (walking) and a multitasking condition (texting while walking). Participants switch between these tasks and a direction determining task. EEG data as well as behavioral measures are recorded.
