Batch Mode Purification

Batch mode purification is a downstream bioprocessing approach in which a defined quantity of biological material is processed through one or more purification steps as a discrete batch rather than continuously. The material typically undergoes sequential operations such as clarification, filtration, and chromatography, where target proteins or antibodies are separated from contaminants through differences in size, charge, binding affinity, or solubility. In immunology and infection research, batch purification helps produce consistent antigens, antibodies, and other biomolecules for diagnostic assays, vaccine studies, and pathogen investigation. Its controlled format supports reproducible processing, quality assessment, and flexible laboratory-scale production.

2016

A high yield method for one-step negative purification of recombinant Helicobacter pylori neutrophil-activating protein (HP-NAP) overexpressed in Escherichia coli by using diethylaminoethyl resins in batch mode is described. HP-NAP purified by this method is beneficial for the development of vaccines, drugs, or diagnostics for H. pylori-associated diseases.

Batch and Continuous Bioreactors

2023

Bioreactors are used to grow organisms in large volumes, thereby enabling the production of mass quantities of the target product. These reactors can be batch reactors, which contain all of the components needed for cell growth, or continuous reactors, which have inlet and outlet ports allowing for the addition of fresh growth media and the removal of cell waste. This video presents batch and continuous reactors and demonstrates the use of bioreactors to grow bacteria in the laboratory.

Batch Immunostaining for Large-Scale Protein Detection in the Whole Monkey Brain

Large-scale immunodetection of target proteins across the entire primate brain is possible by employing novel tissue embedding and sectioning methods combined with the use of creative apparatus for batch staining of multiple free-floating sections at a given time.

What is a Mode?

The mode is one of the commonly used measures of a central tendency. It is defined as the most frequent value in a data set. There can be more than one mode in a data set if multiple values have the same highest frequency. For instance, suppose that the Statistics exam scores of 20 students are: 50; 53; 59; 59; 63; 63; 72; 72; 72; 72; 72; 76; 78; 81; 83; 84; 84; 84; 90; 93. Here, the mode is 72, as it occurs most frequently, five times. A data set with two modes is called bimodal. For example,...

Fed-Batch Culture

2026

Fed-batch culture is a widely used bioprocessing strategy combining aspects of batch culture with controlled substrate feeding to optimize cell growth and product formation. In this semi-closed system, nutrients are strategically added during fermentation, while the accumulated products and biomass remain within the bioreactor until the end of the operation. This controlled addition of substrates allows for better management of growth kinetics, nutrient limitation, and metabolite...
