Mouse Lung Cells

Mouse lung cells are the diverse epithelial, endothelial, stromal, and immune cells that maintain pulmonary function and provide an experimentally accessible model of respiratory biology. Their behavior reflects coordinated processes such as gas-exchange support, barrier maintenance, innate immune recognition, inflammatory signaling, and repair after injury or infection. Researchers isolate and characterize these populations using tissue dissociation, cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, or single-cell analysis to examine host responses to pathogens, test immune mechanisms, and evaluate therapies. Findings from mouse lung cells can reveal how cellular interactions shape respiratory disease, although differences between mouse and human lungs must be considered when translating results.

Dissociating cells from specific tissue types requires specific parameters for tissue agitation to obtain a high volume of viable, culturable cells. The Miltenyi gentleMACS dissociator optimizes this task with a simple, practical protocol. In this publication the use of this apparatus on lung tissue is explained.
