Sensitivity Specificity Evaluation

Sensitivity specificity evaluation is a method for assessing how accurately a diagnostic test identifies disease and correctly excludes it in people without disease. Sensitivity measures the proportion of true positive cases detected, while specificity measures the proportion of true negative cases correctly classified; results are calculated by comparing test outcomes with a reference standard and examining true positives, false negatives, true negatives, and false positives. In immunology and infection research, this evaluation helps validate antibody, antigen, molecular, and cellular assays, guides interpretation of screening and confirmatory tests, and supports informed decisions about test selection, disease surveillance, and clinical or public health use.

In healthcare diagnostics, laboratory tests play a crucial role in identifying and diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions. However, interpreting test results is not always straightforward. An abnormal test result does not always confirm the presence of a disease, just as a normal result does not guarantee its absence. To assess the reliability of these diagnostic tools, healthcare practitioners rely on two key statistical indicators: sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity is the...

Detection and isolation of clinically relevant Vibrio species require selective and differential culture media. This study evaluated the ability of a new chromogenic medium to detect and identify V. parahaemolyticus and other related species. The new medium was found to have better sensitivity and specificity than the conventional medium.

Measuring biomarkers in complex biological samples is increasingly guiding clinical decision-making. We describe a highly sensitive method to simultaneously measure cardiac myosin binding protein-C, creatine kinase MB, and cardiac troponin I in serum samples from subjects with myocardial infarction and healthy control subjects.
