Audio Engineering

Audio engineering is the application of scientific and technical principles to the recording, processing, transmission, and reproduction of sound. It uses mathematics to represent audio as time-varying waveforms, analyze frequency content with Fourier methods, and control amplitude through measurement, filtering, and signal-processing algorithms. Engineers apply these principles when designing equalizers, dynamic-range compressors, digital audio systems, loudspeakers, and acoustic environments. Mathematical modeling helps predict how sound behaves, reduce distortion and noise, optimize system performance, and produce accurate, intelligible recordings across music, film, telecommunications, and scientific measurement.

2023

Tissue engineering aims to create artificial tissue from biomaterials, specific cells, and growth factors. These engineered tissue constructs have far-reaching benefits, with possibilities for organ replacement and tissue repair. This video introduces the field of tissue engineering and examines the components of engineered tissue. This video also outlines some prominent methods used to create the tissue scaffold, introduce a cell population, and encourage growth and proliferation. Finally,...

An Overview of Genetic Engineering

2023

Genetic engineering – the process of purposefully altering an organism’s DNA – has been used to create powerful research tools and model organisms, and has also seen many agricultural applications. However, in order to engineer traits to tackle complex agricultural problems such as stress tolerance, or to realize the promise of gene therapy for treating human diseases, further advances in the field are still needed. Important considerations include the safe and efficient delivery of genetic...

We have developed a decellularized lung extracellular matrix and novel biomimetic bioreactor that can be used to generate functional lung tissue. By seeding cells into the matrix and culturing in the bioreactor, we generate tissue that demonstrates effective gas exchange when transplanted in vivo for short periods of time.
