Duodenum Mucosa Collection

Duodenum mucosa collection is the medical process of obtaining tissue or luminal material from the duodenal lining for diagnostic or research analysis. During upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, a clinician guides an instrument through the stomach into the duodenum and collects small mucosal samples, commonly with biopsy forceps, while limiting injury to surrounding tissue. The specimens can be examined by histopathology, microbiological testing, or molecular analysis to assess inflammation, infection, malabsorption-related changes, and other gastrointestinal disorders. Standardized collection, handling, and preservation help maintain sample quality and support accurate diagnosis, disease characterization, and treatment planning.

This protocol presents robotic duodenum-preserving total pancreatic head resection (R-DPPHRt) for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs). A video demonstrates the technique in a patient with main duct-IPMN, highlighting its feasibility as a minimally invasive, organ-preserving alternative to pancreaticoduodenectomy.
