Experimental Device

An experimental device is a medical device being designed, tested, or evaluated before its safety, performance, and clinical value are established for routine use. It works by applying a defined engineering principle, such as sensing a biological signal, delivering energy or therapy, supporting a body function, or assisting a clinical procedure, under controlled laboratory or clinical conditions. Researchers assess device design, materials, reliability, biocompatibility, and interaction with patients through bench testing, preclinical studies, and carefully monitored human trials. These evaluations generate evidence needed to refine prototypes, identify risks, support regulatory decisions, and determine whether the device can improve diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, or rehabilitation.

This manuscript describes the zWEDGI (zebrafish Wounding and Entrapment Device for Growth and Imaging), which is a compartmentalized device designed to orient and restrain zebrafish larvae. The design permits tail transection and long-term collection of high-resolution fluorescent microscopy images of wound healing and regeneration.

This protocol describes the synthesis and solution deposition of inorganic nanocrystals layer by layer to produce thin film electronics on non-conductive surfaces. Solvent-stabilized inks can produce complete photovoltaic devices on glass substrates via spin and spray coating following post-deposition ligand exchange and sintering.
