External Mesh Reinforcement

External mesh reinforcement is a surgical technique that strengthens weakened or repaired tissue by placing a mesh implant over its outer surface, helping restore structural integrity. The mesh acts as a load-sharing scaffold: it distributes mechanical forces across a broader area than sutures alone, while surrounding tissue grows into or adheres to the material during healing. In medicine, this approach is used primarily in abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair, where reinforcement can support closure and reduce tension on vulnerable tissue. Its effectiveness depends on mesh properties, placement, fixation, tissue condition, and the patient’s healing response.

The mechanisms leading to the development of intimal hyperplasia (IH) and vein graft failure are still poorly understood. This study describes an ex vivo system to perfuse human veins under controlled flow and pressure. Furthermore the efficiency of external mesh reinforcement to limit the development of IH was evaluated.

Positive Reinforcement Studies

Researchers study learning of a behavior through the use of operant conditioning. This type of learning involves associating the behavior with a consequence, which is a reward or punishment. If the consequence is a reward, it leads to reinforcement of the desired behavior. One type of reinforcement approach is positive reinforcement, where the behavior is rewarded with an artificial, natural, or social reinforcer. Studies using positive reinforcement as a tool can help tease out important...

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Mesh Analysis

Mesh analysis is a valuable method for simplifying circuit analysis using mesh currents as key circuit variables. Unlike nodal analysis, which focuses on determining unknown voltages, mesh analysis applies Kirchhoff's voltage law (KVL) to find unknown currents within a circuit. This method is particularly convenient in reducing the number of simultaneous equations that need to be solved. A fundamental concept in mesh analysis is the definition of meshes and mesh currents. A mesh is a closed...
