Eye Examination

An eye examination is a systematic assessment of visual function and ocular health used to detect refractive errors, eye disease, and signs of broader systemic conditions. Clinicians evaluate visual acuity, pupil responses, ocular motility, and visual fields, then inspect structures such as the cornea, lens, retina, and optic nerve using tools including a slit lamp and ophthalmoscope; tonometry may measure intraocular pressure. These assessments help identify conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, and optic nerve abnormalities. Regular eye examinations support early diagnosis, guide corrective or medical treatment, and help monitor changes in vision over time.
