Immunological Behaviors

Immunological behaviors are the coordinated actions of immune cells and molecules as they detect threats, communicate, move through tissues, and regulate inflammation. These behaviors arise when pattern recognition and antigen-specific receptors trigger signaling pathways that control cell activation, migration, effector responses, immune tolerance, and memory. In medicine, analyzing immunological behaviors helps explain infection, autoimmunity, allergy, cancer, and transplant rejection, while guiding the development of vaccines, immunotherapies, anti-inflammatory treatments, and diagnostic approaches. Understanding how immune responses are balanced over time also supports efforts to improve disease prediction and develop more precise therapies.

2024

Immunological memory, a pivotal pillar of the adaptive immune system, is responsible for the body's ability to remember and respond more swiftly and effectively to previously encountered pathogens. This remarkable feature is what makes vaccines so effective in preventing diseases. What is Immunological Memory? Immunological memory is an integral function of the immune system that allows it to recognize and react more rapidly and effectively to pathogens previously encountered. This feature is...

Bacterial Cell Staining and Preparation for Immunological Studies

2025

This video demonstrates the staining and preparation of bacterial cells for immunological studies using red fluorescent dye. The stained bacteria are diluted and resuspended in a growth medium to achieve the desired bacterial concentration for host cell infection, representing the multiplicity of infection.

Immunological Synapse Formation Between Helper T Cells and Antigen-Presenting Cells

2025

This video demonstrates the in vitro study of immunological synapse formation between an antigen-presenting cell and helper T lymphocytes using a fluorescence microscope. T cell receptors of helper T lymphocytes interact with an antigen-MHC-II complex in antigen-presenting cells and form immunological synapses, followed by secretory vesicle movements toward the synapse, which is visualized by fluorescent microscopy.

Visual analytics (VA) is a new approach of analyzing data interactively. In this video, we discuss the data overload problem brought on by high-throughput biological experiments, and propose VA as a solution to such problem. The video demonstrates analysis within and between immunological datasets using a VA tool called Tableau.
