In Vitro Pdt

In vitro photodynamic therapy (PDT) is the laboratory-based study of light-activated treatment in cultured cells or other biological models, providing a controlled way to assess therapeutic effects before clinical use. The process combines a photosensitizer with light at an appropriate wavelength; in the presence of molecular oxygen, the activated compound generates reactive oxygen species that can damage cellular membranes, proteins, and genetic material. In medicine, in vitro PDT models help researchers examine dose and exposure conditions, compare photosensitizers, measure selective cell killing, and clarify treatment mechanisms. These findings support the development and optimization of PDT for cancer and other diseases.

In Vitro Phototoxicity Assay: A PDT-based Method to Evaluate the Phototoxic Potential of a Photosensitizer in Lung Cancer Cells

2023

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive and non-surgical method for lung cancer treatment. Photosensitizers selectively accumulate in tumor tissue and lead to tumor cell death in the presence of oxygen and the proper wavelength of light. In this protocol video, PDT-based method is used to evaluate the phototoxic potential of a potential photosensitizer in lung cancer cells.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive and non-surgical method for lung cancer treatment. Photosensitizers selectively accumulate in tumor tissue and lead to tumor cell death in the presence of oxygen and the proper wavelength of light. This video describes the in vivo anti-tumor efficacy analysis using photosensitizer containing nanoparticles in a tumor-bearing mouse, to determine the phototoxic potential of the photosensitizer.

Whole organ culture of the intervertebral disc (IVD) preserves the native extracellular matrix, cell phenotypes, and cellular-matrix interactions. Here we describe an IVD culture system using mouse lumbar and caudal IVDs in their functional spinal units and several applications utilizing this system.
