Mouse Restrainer Technique

The Mouse Restrainer Technique is a laboratory method that safely limits a mouse’s movement during procedures requiring controlled positioning and access. It uses a purpose-designed, appropriately sized device, such as a ventilated tube or cone, to support the body while exposing selected areas for handling, observation, injection, blood collection, or other interventions. Proper restraint reduces sudden movement and helps improve procedural consistency, but it must be brief, fitted correctly, and monitored to minimize discomfort, stress, and risk of injury. In medicine and biomedical research, the technique supports reliable data collection, personnel safety, and adherence to animal-welfare principles.

This manuscript describes several protocols for administering pharmacological agents to honey bees, including simple noninvasive methods for free-flying bees, as well as more invasive variants that allow precise localized treatment of restrained bees.

A Technique to Generate and Deliver Drug Aerosols Directly to Mouse Lungs

2025

This video demonstrates the generation of drug aerosols and the targeted nose-only delivery of these aerosols to mice using an inhalation unit equipped with an aerosol generator. The mouse is restrained in a nose-only restrainer and connected to the inhalation unit, which delivers the drug directly into the mouse's nasal cavity. Subsequently, the drug passes through the trachea and enters the lungs.

A Technique for Human Skin Grafting in a Mouse Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method for grafting human skin onto an immunodeficient mouse with a suppressed neutrophil response. The method involves applying human split-thickness skin to the mouse's graft bed, sealing it, and covering it for recovery. Eventually, the human skin adheres to the mouse's skin, establishing vascularization and circulation, resulting in a successful skin xenograft.

Non-restraining EEG Radiotelemetry: Epidural and Deep Intracerebral Stereotaxic EEG Electrode Placement

Non-restraining EEG radiotelemetry is a valuable methodological approach to record in vivo long-term electroencephalograms from freely moving rodents. This detailed protocol describes stereotaxic epidural and deep intracerebral electrode placement in different brain regions in order to obtain reliable recordings of CNS rhythmicity and CNS related behavioral stages.
