Preclinical Model

A preclinical model is an experimental system used to study disease, biological responses, or medical interventions before they are evaluated in humans. These models may include cultured cells, organoids, tissues, or laboratory animals, allowing researchers to reproduce selected features of human biology under controlled conditions and measure effects such as toxicity, pharmacological activity, and disease progression. In medicine, preclinical models support target validation, drug development, medical-device assessment, and treatment optimization by identifying potential benefits and risks early. Because no model fully represents human physiology, findings guide study design and help determine whether an intervention merits clinical investigation.

2025

To simulate thromboembolic stroke, emboli prepared from heterologous rat blood were injected into the middle cerebral artery, followed by administration of systemic thrombolysis for recanalization. This version of the model is optimized for use in a multi-laboratory network and supports testing multiple candidate therapeutics.
