Snp Detection

SNP detection is the identification of single-nucleotide polymorphisms, or one-base differences in DNA, that can contribute to variation in disease susceptibility, treatment response, and inherited traits. It typically compares a patient’s sequence with a reference or tests allele-specific signals using methods such as PCR, hybridization probes, or DNA sequencing, where complementary base pairing or nucleotide incorporation distinguishes alternative alleles. In medicine, SNP detection supports genetic diagnosis, pharmacogenomics, risk assessment, and population studies. By linking genetic variants with clinical outcomes, it can help guide treatment selection and advance more individualized approaches to patient care.

SNP Genotyping

2023

Single nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPs, are the most common form of genetic variation in humans. These differences at individual bases in the DNA often do not directly affect gene expression, but in many cases can still be useful for locating disease-associated genes or for diagnosing patients. Numerous methodologies have been established to identify, or “genotype”, SNPs.JoVE’s introduction to SNP Genotyping begins by discussing what SNPs are and how they can be used to identify...

2013

A protocol is described that uses Illumina's Infinium assays to perform large-scale genotyping. These assays can reliably genotype millions of SNPs across hundreds of individual DNA samples in three days. Once generated, these genotypes can be used to check for associations with a variety of different diseases or phenotypes.

Frequency and Distribution of Crossovers in Caenorhabditis elegans Meiosis by SNP Genotyping using Real-time PCR

2025

This protocol provides a method for measuring crossover frequencies and distribution during meiosis in Caenorhabditis elegans. Single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping with real-time PCR was used to determine the origin of the chromosomes. The 4-point mapping allowed to determine the crossover distributions of the left-arm, center, and right-arm regions of each chromosome. ...

This protocol describes a simple adhesive-tape-based approach for sampling of tomato and other fresh produce surfaces, followed by rapid whole cell detection of Salmonella using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Detection of Protein Ubiquitination

Ubiquitination is a key posttranslational modification carried out by a set of three enzymes. Mutations of genes involved in this modification are associated with many different human diseases. Here, we describe protocols to detect protein ubiquitination in cultured cells in vivo and test tubes in vitro.
